Newly-ordained Bishop Rufino Coronel Sescon, Jr. and the fifth bishop to be assigned in Balanga Diocese vowed to be of help to local brethren and officials of the province. He traces his family roots in Balanga City.

Bishop Sescon was warmly welcomed by local officials led by Bataan Gov. Jose Enrique S. Garcia III, Congressman Abet Garcia, provincial board members and municipal mayors in a meaningful ceremony preceded by a Holy Mass last Wednesday at the Bunker.

In his homily, the Bishop who served at the Quiapo Parish Church in Manila prior to being assigned at the Balanga Diocese said in Filipino that “we should not ask for a sign of our future life because Jesus Christ who carried crosses in His lifetime is already a sign and there is no reason to give up.”

He said he has jotted down names of local officials who would always be in his prayers while in his private chapel. “Ang makadiyos ay makabayan din,” he quipped.

Cong. Garcia informed Bishop Sescon that the Bunker which is a one-stop shop for both provincial and national government agencies is a symbol of public private partnership scheme built by the Provincial Government without spending a single cent.

Gov. Garcia, on the other hand, emphasized that the church is an indispensable component of a family that promotes unity and education.
